Devon U13 Girls v Worcestershire - Match Report 2015
This was the second game for the U13 Girls this week. Newly relegated to the B League we are meeting new county teams about which we know very little. After a very positive performance against Wiltshire we were looking forward to raising our game even further. Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat, K Johnstone (23) & H Gallimore (23no) were the leading scorers in a total of 70. Cassia Astley-Jones (Cpt) and Emma Seward (V Cpt) set an attacking field and led by example. Although we need to work on our catching, the Devon girls bowled and fielded with vigour for a most creditable team performance. Vocal, positive and encouraging in the field the girls controlled the game from the outset. Featuring Emma Seward 3-2-1-1, Ellen Day 5-1-9-4 and Grace Heard 5-2-15-4, including one over with 4 wickets and a hat-trick.

Devon batted extremely positively and reached the target in just 8.3 overs. Emma Seward (12), Rebecca Halliday (22) and Grace Heard (14no). The hard work put in by Rosalie Fairbairn, lead Devon coach for the winter, and the District coaches in their areas is certainly paying off. We have all pushed the girls hard and raised our expectations. The more we ask, the better they play it seems. Long may it continue.

A good game played with great spirit. Many thanks to Kelly Evenson, the Worcestershire manager, NDCC for their hospitality and to coach Mark Overton. Well done girls. A great start to the season. I am delighted with you. I hope that you will stay focused and work really hard between now and our next match. We have no idea of the quality of the opposition but we must strive to improve the quality of our play. You should be very proud but by no means complacent!

Thank you all.
